Dr. Tyler Newton recently joined Parallels as a Provisionally Licensed Psychologist. Dr. Newton’s internship and experience encompasses forensic and neurological assessment and the theoretical orientations of Psychodynamic Theory, Cognitive Behavioral modalities, Persona Centered, Gestalt, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). Dr. Newton completed his internship in Tempe, AZ. He performed forensic assessments for Maricopa County’s Public Defender’s Office, the County Attorney General and the Family Courts. He performed individual therapy for the Division of Child Safety and lead the groups for Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. Dr. Newton conducted Social Security Disability evaluations for the State of Arizona which included substance abuse evaluations. He has performed Guilty Except Insane evaluations for the criminal courts in Arizona. He has experience conducting therapeutic supervised visitation and parenting assessments. Dr. Newton also specializes in psychosexual risk assessments. Dr. Newton’s professional experience includes serving as an expert witness for the Maricopa Family Courts as a Therapeutic Interventionist and providing custody evaluations. He has performed evaluations in capital murder cases. He is certified in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and as a Certified Sex Offender Treatment Professional (CSOTP). Dr. Newton is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Arizona and Nebraska and as a provisionally licensed psychologist in Nebraska. He has been trained in Psychodrama and Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. He has worked in inpatient treatment centers with eating disorders in Arizona and holds specialized training to treat Anorexia, Bulimia and Overeating disorders. Dr. Newton is a Scottsbluff, NE native and a graduate from Western Nebraska Community College and Chadron State College. He recently graduated from the Arizona School of Professional Psychology at Argosy Phoenix. Before leaving to obtain his doctorate degree he lived and worked in Lincoln, NE where he conducted Intensive Family Preservation (IFP) services for Visinet. Dr. Newton has recently moved back to his home state of Nebraska with his family Dr. Newton’s educational background includes a Diploma In Private Investigation (2000), an Associates of Arts in Criminal Justice (2002) graduating Phi Theta Kappa, a Bachelor of Arts in Legal Studies and Psychology (2005) graduating Cum Laude, Master of Arts in Community Counseling (2007), Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology (2014) and a Doctorate of Clinical Psychology (2017).
