The GLBT program at Parallels has the goal of offering a safe place for gay, lesbian, transgendered, bisexual and questioning clients to deal with adjustment issues, mental health issues and substance abuse issues. This gives GLBT clients an open forum to also discuss relationships and other life issues without fear of group members judging them. The goal of the group is to help client s adjust to their own sexuality and/or learn ways to handle other issues in a setting that promotes safety and change. Confidentiality is another primary focus of this group. Having a GLBT specific group provides a confidential place for clients to meet with people who are dealing with similar issues.
The GLBT group is approximately an 8 week program, depending on client needs. The client will also meet individually with the counselor weekly to help build a foundation for skills that will be used in group and to discuss in privacy other issues that the client is living with. The client will begin with participating in an individual intake and orientation session. This is followed by another orientation/treatment planning session, which is then followed by group participation.
Groups meet on Monday night from 7:00 pm 8:30 p.m.
Call Parallels if you have questions or would like to schedule an appointment for this group.
